A mobile home park was evacuated; roads are closed; basements are flooded; city parks are filling with water. Those are just a few of the impacts the Minnesota Department of Homeland Security says have been caused by spring snow-melt and recent rains in parts of southern Minnesota.
Officials say the American Red Cross has opened a shelter for residents and their pets who were evacuated from a manufactured home community in Jordan due to flooding caused by an ice jam in Sand Creek.
They add that road closures are being reported in the following counties:
- Jackson
- Le Sueur
- Goodhue
- Winona
- Blue Earth
- Houston
In addition, agents say the following jurisdictions have declared states of emergency:
- Cottonwood County
- Nobles County
- Yellow Medicine County
- City of Canby
Officials have made sandbags available to residents in several counties and HSEM staff say they will continue to monitor the weather and flooding across the state.
