A homeless man with a gun is accused of stealing a Mankato woman’s rental vehicle and other belongings and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Mankato Police say the victim reported on Sunday that 43-year-old Dwight Ford had been homeless in Minneapolis when she met him a few months prior and had recently been staying at her home.

The criminal complaint shows the pair were at the home of a family member and when she stepped out of the bathroom the woman noticed her keys and the SUV were gone.

A witness at the woman’s home told investigators that Ford stopped there with a handgun at his side, but never pointed it at her or her two children, retrieved something from another room, left the house and got into the back seat of the vehicle. Police say it’s not clear who was behind the wheel.

The victim discovered that   $4,000 in cash and watch worth $4,000 were also missing. She also told officers that she spoke on the phone with Ford and he threatened to kill her for being, “A snitch.”

Ford’s history includes several convictions that make it illegal for him to possess a gun. He is charged with two such firearm violations, theft, vehicle theft, and making threats of violence.
