Governor Walz is expected to sign a bill Friday banning cell phone use while driving–other than in hands-free mode. The bill passed with bipartisan support in both the House and Senate.
Senator Scott Newman says, “Operators will be able to use either GPS or audio, but you best have your podcasts and your GPS loaded and ready to go, because you cannot keyboard and you cannot scroll.”
The penalty for violating the law is a gross misdemeanor, carrying a $50 fine for the first violation and a $275 fine for subsequent violations. Once signed, the law goes into effect on August 1st.
