Though there haven’t been any confirmed measles cases in Minnesota, health officials are concerned in the wake of near-record cases of outbreaks in the U-S–including in nearby Iowa and Illinois.
“Really the best way to prevent an individual case of measles, or prevent outbreaks is to get vaccinated and the measles vaccine, known as the MMR vaccine it’s very safe, it’s very effective.”
Jane Griffith is an epidemiologist with the state Health Department. She says measles can be dangerous–and even deadly in some cases. 22 states have reported cases of measles so far this year.
