A bill passed by the Minnesota House that contains controversial gun reform measures faces strong opposition in the Republican-controlled Senate. The bill has a “red flag” law to take firearms away from people who are a danger to themselves or others, and requires background checks on all gun sales. Governor Walz supports the measures and says…

“It was mentioned by a Senator as extreme. That’s the same extreme legislation that was passed by a Republican governor in both Arizona and Florida with Republican legislatures, we’re coming on the heels of another shooting I think there’s every reason to believe we can get that done as a minimum, so I’m still hopeful.”

Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka calls the measures “a non-starter for the Senate.”
