The finger-pointing has begun now that state lawmakers were unable to reach a broad budget agreement by a midnight deadline. Republicans accuse the Democrats of doing nothing to cut taxes. House Speaker Melissa Hortman responds…

“Which is I’m sorry, bull***, the governor moved $200 million, we proposed to move $664 million. They are not that bad at math, $200 is not zero, $664 million is not zero.”

The governor offered to cut 200 million dollars in spending from his budget request–but he would not budge on a gas tax and medical provider tax. Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says “serious negotiations can continue when St. Paul Democrats realize we can’t keep taxing people out of independence and prosperity.” So far, no negotiations are scheduled for today (Wednesday).
