Governor Walz and Senate Republicans remain far apart on a budget solution as the clock ticks on the legislative session. Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says the GOP plan is one that works for Minnesotans…

“We didn’t do a budget that was a billion dollars of cuts, we did a budget that used the money we had and the surplus and put a budget together.”

But Governor Walz says his plan–which includes gas tax and health care provider tax increases–is best for Minnesotans…

“We’re creating a budget that done right, will not only invest in the things Minnesotans care about, it’ll save us money in the long run.”

No new negotiations are set until Sunday night, but both Gazelka and Walz have said they may resume discussions in the boat at this weekend’s fishing opener in Albert Lea.
