Results from face to face interviews during the 2018 Minnesota Homelessness Survey were released Wednesday. Researcher Brian Pittman helped compile the data with Wilder Research. He says more analysis is needed, but the trends do point to how we should approach the battle to end homelessness.
“I think we need to focus on solutions that help to mitigate some of the trauma and distress and discrimination as well as focusing on getting people into housing.”
The study found many of the homeless population interviewed had experienced some sort of violence or trauma, including more than half of the homeless women surveyed. Later this fall a detailed report will be released including an estimate of the total homeless population in the state.
