Governor Walz and legislative leaders have reached a “global” budget agreement–but one key issue remains unresolved–election security. The state is entitled to $6.6 million from the federal government to bolster election security, but Senate Republicans have approved only a portion of the funding. Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon says…

“I am cautiously optimistic, although this was not spelled out explicitly in the agreement that the leaders reached Sunday evening, there’s reason to hope that this will happen.”

Governor Walz and Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka both said today they are confident it will get done this session–or in special session. Minnesota is the only state not have accepted the funding, and Simon says every day we wait is a day our elections systems are vulnerable.
