Forty-two years ago today, in 1977, Willie Nelson recorded tracks for his legendary album, Stardust.
The album was produced by Booker T. Jones and all of the songs are based on different pop standards that Nelson chose to incorporate into his music. Due to the new and different style of Nelson’s album, Stardust, executives from Colombia Records were convinced that the album would not sell.
The Colombia Records executives ended up being very wrong on their predictions about Nelson’s album. After it’s release in 1988, Stardust ended up on Billboard’s Country Album charts for ten years.
