Flimsy, lazy and last-minute — labels some Democrats put on Senate Republicans’ police reform proposals. G-O-P leaders say the special session ends next Friday, and Democratic House Speaker Melissa Hortman says about that:

“We should not be in any hurry to leave the State Capitol before our work is done.”

Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says the legislature will first pass reforms both sides can agree on:

“Eventually you get to that place where neither side’s gonna agree and you’re just moving around and around the mountain. I’m putting those off into the second stage.”
