Despite a widely agreed upon 14 day incubation period for COVID-19, state health officials are cautioning we are still not far enough removed from the George Floyd protests and riots more than three weeks ago to determine what impact the large gatherings had on the spread of the virus.

“Certainly it is encouraging that the patterns that we have been seeing are still holding, we do think it is a little early to draw any definitive conclusions.”

State Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm says free testing sites set up for those who attended gatherings have so far turned up a case positive rate of around one percent. Statewide the case positive rate continues to drop, falling below seven percent according to Wednesday’s data release from M-D-H.
