Mankato-Public Safety has received more than 30 complaints of identity theft related to unemployment benefits since May 29. Unknown suspects are accessing private information and applying for benefits through the State of Minnesota.

There’s a statewide investigation.

Residents are encouraged to closely monitor their financial accounts. If there’s an incident of identity theft, file a report with the Federal Trade Commission. If the incident involves someone applying for unemployment benefits in your name from the State of Minnesota, file a report with the Minnesota Unemployment Insurance online; and, call 911.
