The Minnesota Department of Health says a recent jump in COVID cases in Blue Earth County is linked to people in their 20s attending multiple bars and restaurants over the June 12-13 weekend.

The data shows an increase of 91 cases since Friday, the most since the pandemic began. The Department of Health also says Blue Earth County’s cases show a larger number of positive cases in younger people compared with other counties.

Kris Ehresman with the Minnesota Department of Health issued a warning for young people.

“As we enjoy heading back out to bars and restaurants, we need to be aware of how COVID spreads. I know it is hard to enjoy an adult beverage while wearing a mask.”

Several bars and restaurants in Mankato have temporarily closed because employees have tested positive for COVID. Dunkin Donuts is the latest to join the list of those who have disclosed that information, joining Weggy’s Johnny B’s, the 507, Rounders, and Applebee’s.

Blue Bricks closed so everyone could get tested. Weggy’s remained open.
