Among those criticizing Governor Tim Walz’s COVID emergency orders is fellow Democrat, 7th District Congressman Collin Peterson, who says the restrictions are harming the rural economy:

“I’ve had a number of discussions with the governor about this, where because we’re (competing) against North and South Dakota we got problems with people losing business across the border to states that have different criteria than we do.”

Peterson says it’s hard to explain to people in Lake of the Woods County with one COVID case, or Kittson County with three cases, why they should be shut down when most of the problem is in the Twin Cities and other urban areas.
