Deputy state Education Commissioner Heather Mueller says in Minnesota school districts that resume in-person classroom learning this fall, every K-12 student will receive a cloth face mask, plus three extra disposable masks:

“And that’s because, quite frankly, a lot of us might forget them, and we never want a face mask to be a reason that a student isn’t able to come into the building.”

And Mueller says every K-12 *teacher* will receive a cloth face mask and a clear face shield, and will also have one COVID test available to them. Education Minnesota teachers union President Denise Specht says about that:

“I think that most educators will appreciate the thought. I think it says that the State of Minnesota cares about their safety. I would say that it probably isn’t enough.

Specht says she hopes some of the funding being provided the state will help school districts implement additional safeguards if necessary.
