As parents, students and teachers get ready to go back to school amid COVID-19, state Education Commissioner Mary Catherine Ricker has this message:

“We have absolutely focused on the safety and health of your students in their learning conditions this year and we are going to make sure that we meet your academic needs of your child.”

Ricker says the unpredictability of coronavirus has made it a challenge to prep for the new school year as districts have planned for three learning scenarios: in-person classes, distance-learning or a hybrid of both.
