Minnesota-based Health Partners is ramping up efforts to recruit people to participate in a COVID-19 vaccine trial. Health Partners clinical researcher Dr. Zeke McKinney says it is a long process, but they hope for early breakthroughs.

“Three to six months down the road, even though this is a two-year trial, if it is showing really good efficacy in terms of people are having a good immune response, it potentially could be released publically even sooner than after that two years.”

McKinney says the last vaccine developed on such a rapid timeline was for the H1N1 strain of the flu in 2008, which as of 2018 was rated by the CDC as 67% effective.
