Schell’s Brewery in New Ulm is the oldest brewery in Minnesota. Now, the owners are urging the Minnesota legislature to change a law that limits the capacity of growlers. Kyle Marti vice president of operations says they are literally pouring profits down the drain:
“It’s an old law that Minnesota has in place that when it was established it probably made sense but as consumer preferences change and the world becomes a different place —- consumers are looking for a change and we’re just hoping to work with our lawmakers, partners to get it pushed through.”
Right now growlers are capped at 20,000 barrels. Once they hit that, they can no longer sell growlers.
