(Hennepin Co., MN) — Prosecutors in the George Floyd case want third-degree murder charges reinstated against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. In their request, prosecutors cite Mohamed Noor’s third-degree murder conviction being upheld earlier this week. The former officer was convicted of third-degree murder for shooting an unarmed woman while responding to a crime report in 2017. Chauvin’s third-degree murder charge was dropped last year. Prosecutors now want that charge reinstated against Chauvin and added to the three other former officers charged in the case.
