Minnesota’s Republican Lawmakers are looking to strip Governor Tim Walz of some powers as they call on him to loosen COVID-19 restrictions. Republicans called on him to let businesses reopen fully amid the pandemic at least by May 1st, but Walz says he doesn’t think you can ever set a date on a situation like this, but he feels their sense of urgency. In response, Republicans in the senate have passed four bills that would strip away some of the governor’s powers, including one that would ban him from closing schools with his emergency powers. Another bill would allow businesses to fully reopen, but with COVID safety plans. However, it is unlikely any of these initiatives will pass through the Democratic-led House.
