Republicans say Governor Tim Walz is spurning their efforts on a compromise to end his COVID emergency powers, by rejecting their proposed “off-ramp” during closed-door meetings.  House G-O-P Minority Leader Kurt Daudt says:

“The grip that… the teachers union has over the governor and keeping masks in schools and keeping masks on teachers, I wonder if that’s not the reason the governor is still holding onto these emergency powers.”

A spokesman responds the governor is committed to finding bipartisan solutions, but Republicans’ proposal would slow down vaccinations, jeopardize hundreds of millions of dollars in hunger relief, and end Minnesota’s moratorium on evictions overnight.  Republicans say they have a reasonable plan for ending the eviction moratorium that would protect landlords as well as tenants, but Democrats refuse to move forward with it.
