Minnesota Republicans continue to call on Governor Tim Walz to give up his COVID-19 emergency powers. Yesterday, GOP leaders held a press conference to announce a proposal for an “off-ramp” to the end of those powers. The plan would reportedly allow Walz to keep testing and vaccination efforts but remove other powers and exisiting orders. The governors’ office says the proposal is flawed, as it would jeopardize relief funds and orders which help struggling residents. Lawmakers will likely discuss emergency powers during their special session in mid-June.
