Republican Congressman Tom Emmer says the 300-dollar weekly federal supplemental unemployment benefit is basically idling the workforce and making it extremely difficult for employers to find workers:

“When they do the math they are making more money staying at home than they can be going back to work. The hospitality industry as it starts to open up, you know restaurants, hotels, even low-end manufacturing jobs… they are going to stay at home because they are making more money.”

Emmer says he’s heard from a number of business owners who say they might not be able to make it until the end of September, which is when the 300 dollar supplement stops.
