Road heave, breaks in pavement caused by extreme heat, have been an increasing issue as temperatures remain high in the state. MnDOT’s Anne Meyer says they need the help of drivers to find, and fix, these trouble spots.

“This situation is a traffic emergency, so we want drivers to call 911 to  report that break in the pavement, to allow our crews to get out there as soon as possible and repair that.”

Meyer says the heave happens as the pavement runs out of room to safely expand in the face of high temperatures. It is especially an issue with older concrete pavement.
