Now that Derek Chauvin has pleaded guilty to violating George Floyd’s civil rights, what does this mean for the other three officers charged with the same federal charges? Hamline University Professor David Schultz:
“It’s kind of a mixed bag. On one level it may not be good in the sense that what… Derek Chauvin may testify against them. On the other hand, it could potentially help them in the sense that they don’t have Derek Chauvin attached to them.”
Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane, and Thou Thao have all pleaded not guilty in the federal case. The three also face trial next year on state charges of aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter in Floyd’s death.
