>>Vikings Fire Spielman, Zimmer
— A new era of Vikings football is about to begin. The team announced yesterday the firings of general manager Rick Spielman and head coach Mike Zimmer. Spielman joined the organization prior to the 2006 season, and he was elevated to the GM role in 2012. Zimmer was hired by the team in 2014, and he went 72-56-and-1 during his eight seasons, making the playoffs three times. Co-owner Mark Wilf says the team is not going into a full rebuild, and added that he expects the team to be competitive in 2022.
>>Vikings Sign Eight To Future Contracts
— The Minnesota Vikings signed eight players to reserve/future contracts yesterday. All eight were on the team’s practice squad at some point during the 2021 campaign. Of the eight, only linebacker Tuf Borland, safety Myles Dorn, and cornerback Parry Nickerson saw meaningful action on game day.
>>Wolves Visit Pelicans
— The Minnesota Timberwolves will go for their fifth straight win when they take on the Pelicans tonight in New Orleans. The Wolves are 20-and-20 following a 141-123 win over the Rockets on Sunday. Minnesota is 2-and-1 against New Orleans this season. Tonight’s game tips off at 7PM.
>>Eriksson Ek Set To Return
— The Minnesota Wild are making some changes to their roster. The team announced that Joel Eriksson Ek has been activated from injured reserve. Additionally, forward Matt Boldy and goaltender Andrew Hammond have been reassigned to the taxi squad. Goalie Hunter Jones and forwards Kyle Rau and Marco Rossi were sent down to Iowa. The Wild are off until Friday when they host the Ducks.
>>Gophers Football Adds Staff, Players
— The Minnesota Gophers announced a couple of moves to their coaching staff yesterday. The football program is promoting defensive analyst Danny Collins to be its safeties coach, and Greg Harbaugh has been hired to be tight ends coach. Both assistants have worked under head coach PJ Fleck in the past. The Gophers also got a commitment from Clemson transfer Darnell Jefferies. The defensive tackle played in just one game with the Tigers last year.
