Governor Tim Walz is highlighting public safety the second day in a row (Thurs) as he campaigns around Minnesota with only a few days to the election. Walz told a group of metro area mayors he’s heard from local officials from New Ulm to Eagan to Duluth — give us the resources and we’ll use them. Edina Mayor Jim Hovland told the governor:
…”convey to you other information that may help you update what you want to do with the legislative session. That would be coming up. Making an assumption there.”
Walz: “It will be coming up and… get it done as soon as possible.”
Republican challenger Scott Jensen responds:
“What we’re seeing is a certain panic on the part of Tim Walz.”
Jensen contends the record of Walz and his administration is clear — from the response to the George Floyd riots, to supporting lighter sentences for criminals. Walz says Jensen blocked a budget deal that would have provided hundreds of millions of dollars for public safety. Jensen responds Walz wouldn’t give up additional spending in other areas.
