“Well, good afternoon, everyone…”

…Governor Tim Walz at Alice Smith Elementary School in (the metro suburb of) Hopkins this afternoon (Tues), calling on the legislature to pass his 150-million-dollar summer school learning package.  The governor says it will help students catch up from learning disruptions during the pandemic:

“The legislature is down to two weeks (to the adjournment deadline)….  We tell our students not to procrastinate on their homework.  We are procrastinating on our homework.”

Senate Education Committee Chairman, Lino Lakes Republican Roger Chamberlain responds Minnesota schools received 2.6 billion dollars from the federal government in the last year.  Chamberlain says, “Rather than raising taxes for a one-time need, like summer school, we should use the one-time federal funds for it.”
